Social Media

Does Your Social Media Need a Strategy, or Just Better Content?

When a social account isn't performing, the instinct is almost always to post more, or post prettier. Sometimes that helps. More often it just produces more content that has the same problem as the content before it, because the actual issue was never the posts. It was what came before them.

The symptom and the cause aren't the same thing

Low reach, flat engagement, and a feed that feels like it's shouting into a room nobody's in: these are symptoms. They can come from weak content (bad photos, dull captions, no hook), but just as often they come from a cause one layer up: nobody decided who this account is actually trying to reach, or what they'd want from it.

You can tell the difference with one question: if you doubled your posting frequency tomorrow, would it fix the problem, or just double the amount of content nobody's responding to? If it's the second one, better content won't save you. A plan will.

What a plan actually adds

A real social media plan answers three things before a single post gets written: who you're actually trying to reach, what they'd stop scrolling for, and what you want to happen after they see it (a booking, an application, a donation, simply remembering you exist). Content built on top of those answers tends to work even when it's not perfectly polished, because it's aimed at something real.

Content built without them can be beautifully shot and still underperform, because it's optimised for looking good rather than landing with anyone specific.

How to tell which one you're missing

Look at your last ten posts. If you can't say, for each one, who it was for and what you wanted them to do, you're missing the plan, not the polish. If you can answer both clearly and it's still not landing, the execution is the gap, and that's a content problem, not a strategy one.

Most accounts we take over have some of both. We start with the plan regardless, because content built on a weak foundation just needs redoing again in six months.

This is exactly what our social media management service is built to fix, backed by the same marketing strategy work that sets the plan before anyone touches a caption.
